The project deals with the issue of using living plants as material for technical constructions in the landscape using bioengineering principles. The topic is aimed at children and young people attending schools in Vienna and Lower Austria which are involved in the present project.
Using plants instead of technical constructions offers various ecological and aesthetic benefits and helps to conserve valuable ecosystems and habitats. In the project children and young people are able to experience bioengineering principles applied in their everyday school environment as well as in natural environments (slopes, embankments and watercourses) which serve to arouse their interest in this field. As a result, they are motivated to choose a profession in bioengineering, vegetation technologies or landscape construction. In addition, the children and young people have a greater awareness of the connections between natural sciences and technology.
